CD20 BW/SA/Insurance Q

So I had my CD 20 blood work today to confirm O and dropped off DH's SA. I will probably follow up with my Dr on Thurs or Friday to find out the results. If everything looks good, I was planning on getting a referral to an RE since I am pretty sure that my OBGYN is going to want to put me on Clomid with no monitoring.

So now here comes the really bad part. My insurance only covers the Diagnosis of infertility, not the treatment which I have known about all along. I figured that I would find an RE on my plan and at least things like an HSG, and other diagnostic tests would be covered. Well apparently there are no RE's in the area that work with BCBS according to their provider finder. I'm at a total loss of what to do. I want to make the leap to an RE but I also don't want to be out of pocket for things that should be covered. I was planning on looking at all the other plans offered by the fed gov't and my husband's company during open season in October, but my guess is that none of them will cover IF treatments since the state of Louisiana doesn't require it. I feel so defeated. And discouraged. And frustrated. I guess I'll talk to my OBGYN and see if she does any of these other diagnostic tests. That way when I do go to an RE, I will go armed with all the info. If she does I guess I'll stick with her for a while more. If she doesn't I have no idea what I will do.

For those of you who don't have insurance coverage how are you financing all of this? I hate to totally drian our savings because then when we do get KU we won't have $$ for baby stuff. But on the other hand I hate to take out financing if we have some money saved. Ugh.

Also, for those of you who have done all the diagnostic stuff. What other testing did you do before you started treatment? (So far I've done post-coital, CD20 BW to confirm O, Dh's SA, 2 transvaginal U/S to check for cyst and will do CD 3 BW when next cycle begins).

I was/am in the same situation as you are. My insurance only covered diagnostic testing, so as soon as I had my IUI and was labeled "infertile" I had no coverage.
I got all of the important and pricey tests done through my OB/GYN because they were covered. The tests that I had that you haven't, are the HSG and a vaginal ultrasound.
My suggestion is to get those test done w/ your OB then go to an RE with all of the results.
I talked/begged my RE to see if they could give me discount since I was paying out of pocket...and they gave 50% ALL services including the IUI!! I couldn't believe it. It is worth asking.
Just to give you an idea of what we pay:
$125 ultrasound
$205 IUI
That combine with clomid and a trigger shot is usually $400 a cycle...not bad!!
I totally understand your frustration. I hope it works out for you.

Oh wow Jessica, that's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be! even with out the discount it would have been probably around 8 which is totally doable.

I actually had a transvaginal U/S twice these year, everything looks good on those.

i'm sorry LT, my insurance is the same way, but i'm lucky to have found a great RE that takes my insurance. Jessica is right, do your HSG through your OB.

and Jessica is right, ask for discounts, you never know. as my boss always says, "you don't ask, you don't get".

but i'm hoping you won't have to be at an RE for too long. good luck!

I had a lot of testing done but mine was for my 2 m/cs. I had all my hormones tested including thyroid, CD3, CD10, & CD21 checked. I had an HSG, u/s, and tons and tons of b/w 11 vials of b/w to be exact on one single day. I hope you can work something out. GL with all the results. I'll be thinking of you!

I had all the same testing and was in the same boat with what was covered. My IUI cost was similar to Jessica's and as long as you don't do injectibles, the cost is managable- injectibles get pricey.

Im always thinking of you and hope that you can get a plan together soon. (((Hugs)))

Ugh. I hate insurance! My insurance covered all my testing for IF and even my surgery (thank God!) But not sure beyond that what it would have covered. I'm thinking of you and praying for you that this will all work out for you.
