A week of firsts

This week Lillian and I experienced a number of firsts...

~ Thanks to two big spit-ups, two big blowouts and a pee accident, we managed to to have our first day where 6 different outfits were worn. It was impressive. And along the way we learned a very important lesson... Target diapers and Lillian don't play well together. Back to pampers we go.

~On Tuesday night, Lillian slept from 10:30pm until 5:00am with out stirring a bit. It was AMAZING. Now if I could just figure out how to make it happen again?

~Lillian and I spent our first night alone together. My husband had to go to Vegas for a work trip, so we were left to fend for ourselves. Lillian has mild colic (or at least that's what we think for now). She cries fairly inconsolably from about 5pm until she goes to sleep around 10pm. Its been pretty rough and I was nervous about going it alone. Fortunately right when I got to my breaking point, she dozed off for a little cat nap and I was able to get a break. Its hard to have her cry and not be able to make her feel better. I feel so helpless at times.

~I fed Lillian a bottle for the first time. Her nighttime routine is that she gets bathed, has a bottle with breast milk and goes to bed. DH does all this with her but because he was out of town I had to do it. I decided to maintain the routine and give her a bottle rather than feed her from the breast. It went surprisingly well. I'm not sure why, but she burps so much better when she is fed from a bottle.

~Lillian and I hosted our first luncheon! Three of my good friends were pregnant at the same time as me, and we were all due within 6 weeks of each other. On Tuesday we all got together for lunch at my place. It was so great to have other new moms to talk to. Its amazing how we all worry about the same things, and struggle with the same things. I am so blessed to be going through this journey with such dear friends.

Starting to fall apart...

Hope everyone's week is going well!

A sleeping beast

Through out my pregnancy, I never bought any clothes for Lillian. To be honest, I think I was too nervous to actually buy anything for her. I was so afraid I would jinx something. We were fortunate enough to receive a lot of clothes at our showers and as hand me downs from family and friends, so I knew Lillian would be covered for when we came home from the hospital. But today I may have awoken a sleeping beast....

A friend and I went to this great consignment sale and I was able to scoop up the above adorable clothes (many of which still had original tags on them) for right around a hundred dollars. I mean what girl doesn't need a ton of smocked outfits?!? They are just so frickin cute, and they totally make me want to go on a shopping spree! Eeeek!

Diaper Rash Gold

Just in case anyone else is battling diaper rash, I thought I should pass on this excellent recommendation from my pediatrician. Lillian has had diaper rash since right after her 1 week appointment. I was using the typical stuff but having no luck getting it to go away. At her one month appointment, I asked the doctor what I should do about it and he recommended trying Triple Paste. I went to Walgreen's and was able to find it in the baby section. It was pretty pricey (around $10 for a tube), but I figured I would give it a try. 2 days later Lillian's diaper rash was totally gone. Amazing! Definitely worth the money.

Now the questions is, when the baby doesn't have any diaper rash should I still keep putting the cream on to prevent it from coming back? Or should I let her go without any cream until it comes back?

Suggestions welcome!

And because no post is complete without a picture... here are Lillian and I at a party for one my of best friends and her new son.

1 Month Drs Appt

Yesterday we had Lillian's one month doctors appointment. Her one month stat's are as follows:

Age: 5 weeks
Weight: 8lbs 4oz (10-25%)
Height: 20 1/4" (10%)
Head: 15"  (50-75%)

So she's pretty small when it comes to height and weight, but wow that head is HUGE! You know what they say... big head... big brain! LOL. She's had a big head since she was born. The Dr actually told me right after he delivered her that there was no way she would have been able to be delivered vaginally because her head was so large. Overall the doctor was very happy with her growth from our 1 week appointment. She had to get her first shot at this appointment (a Hep B vaccine). I couldn't even watch because I felt so bad for her. She cried a decent amount but we were able to get her calmed down pretty quickly once it was all done. She was pretty cranky when we got home, but after a little Tylenol she was able to get some rest and woke up feeling better.

I forgot to ask my Dr two questions that I will throw out to my blogger community to see if I can find the answers...

1. Lillian gets one bottle a day. We usually give it to her at her for her night feeding. I've been putting 2 oz in the bottle, but don't really know how much I should be putting in there. Is there some kind of guide for how much breast milk you should bottle feed a baby? She's 5 weeks.

2. When is it ok to fly with a baby. My DH's brother is getting married in June and they are throwing his FI a wedding shower in April which I want to go to. Lillian will be 10 weeks if I fly with her. Is that too soon??

Thanks in advance for your help!!

One Month Old

Lillian is one month old today! I can't believe how quickly time is flying by. Here's Lillian at one month:

My sister was in town all last week which was amazing. It was so much fun to have her here and she was such an amazing help with Lillian. She changed more poopy diapers than she could have ever imagined she would!

Kelley was the photographer for the week so this is the only pict I have of her!

Lillian had a big week last week. Me and Kelley were able to get out and about quite a bit which was fun for us and Lillian. We went out for lunch, dinner and some shopping!
Lillian got dressed up
Other than that not to much going on around here... just a lot of eating, sleeping and..well you know.
Have I mentioned I'm really tired?...

....so is Lillian
