1 Month Drs Appt

Yesterday we had Lillian's one month doctors appointment. Her one month stat's are as follows:

Age: 5 weeks
Weight: 8lbs 4oz (10-25%)
Height: 20 1/4" (10%)
Head: 15"  (50-75%)

So she's pretty small when it comes to height and weight, but wow that head is HUGE! You know what they say... big head... big brain! LOL. She's had a big head since she was born. The Dr actually told me right after he delivered her that there was no way she would have been able to be delivered vaginally because her head was so large. Overall the doctor was very happy with her growth from our 1 week appointment. She had to get her first shot at this appointment (a Hep B vaccine). I couldn't even watch because I felt so bad for her. She cried a decent amount but we were able to get her calmed down pretty quickly once it was all done. She was pretty cranky when we got home, but after a little Tylenol she was able to get some rest and woke up feeling better.

I forgot to ask my Dr two questions that I will throw out to my blogger community to see if I can find the answers...

1. Lillian gets one bottle a day. We usually give it to her at her for her night feeding. I've been putting 2 oz in the bottle, but don't really know how much I should be putting in there. Is there some kind of guide for how much breast milk you should bottle feed a baby? She's 5 weeks.

2. When is it ok to fly with a baby. My DH's brother is getting married in June and they are throwing his FI a wedding shower in April which I want to go to. Lillian will be 10 weeks if I fly with her. Is that too soon??

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Yay for a great appt!

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your bottle question. N never took the bottle early on (and still doesn't), so I don't know how much they "should" be eating.

As for flying, I guess it depends on your own kid. I know some with pretty calm babies that have flown at just a few months old. But others have pretty hyper kids that would never stay quiet and still. It just depends on their individual personalities, I guess. :)

Jack was born at 7lbs 15oz and our doctor told us to do 3 oz of BM for nightime feedings. We did the same thing- bottle before bed. Mainly because Jack would fall asleep while nursing and we needed some rest!

Also, I flew with Jack when he was six weeks. Easiest flight ever. He slept the whole time. I think ten weeks is completely do-able. Which airline are you considering flying? I flew Southwest and asked if there was any empty seats. As it turned out, there was, so he could stay in his bucket seat.

Lillian is so cute and that is my #1 name if we ever have a little girl!

According to the nursing mother's companion you can determine the amount of milk your baby needs by multiplying baby's weight in kilograms by 6 and then rounding to the nearest whole number.

Then you divide this number by the number of feeds they are taking per day.

The twins eat (on average) 7 times a day, so Ryan whoiras 8 lbs 7 oz as of his 2 month well baby should be taking 3.73 ounces (so we give him 3.75 ounces).

As for flying, we're flying with the twins I'm June - they'll be 5 months old then.

I don't know the first question because I didn't give Nicky a bottle until he was 3 months old.

I believe you can fly once she gets her first series of vaccines which is at 2 months. I flew to Florida with Nicky in December and when I called his pedi she said as long as he got his vaccines he's good to go. So at 10 weeks Lilian should be all set. You can always call the pedi's office and ask. Also when you check in, ask if the flight is full. If it's not, than you can bring her car seat into the plane and put it on a seat. Nicky was 3 months old and he was great on the plane.

I found her stats really interesting because my Lillian also has a huge head (and a small body). I just checked her birth stats and her head was 14.5 inches when she was born. I wonder if that's why she got stuck on the way out and they had to use the vacuum!

I flew with Lillian at 3 months and it was not bad because I could nurse her whenever she got fussy. Plus, I discovered that so many people are really understanding and nice! Good luck!

BTW, this is the first time I've seen your newborn photos and they are gorgeous!
