:-/ and :-)

Follow-up appt was today. I have mixed emotions.

So the cyst is not gone. It has shrunk a little (from 17mm to 14mm), but is generally "not responding" to the BCP treatment. Dr. D thinks is may be a endometriomas which is basically endometriosis which invades the ovary, producing blood filled cysts. (previously they thought this was a a Hemorrhagic cyst, which  occurs when a very small blood vessel in the wall of the functional cyst breaks, and the blood enters the cyst.) So basically the good news is we can try to get KU this cycle when I get AF (more on that in a sec). Bad news, I may have endometriosis. Dr. D said he would want to do a few cycles before he performs a Laproscopy. I guess my worry is that if I do have Endo which is preventing me from getting pregnant, I hate to be wasting all this money on treatment. Now I know the Dr. knows best, and from my limited research all signs indicate that endo may prevent you from getting pregnant, but its not definite at all. Anyway. It just leaves me feeling a little.... meh.

So onto medicated cycle #1. I'm going to stop my BCPs on Friday so I can get CD1 on sat or sun. Protocol for this cycle will be:
CD1 - OV = Dexamethason (to control the elevated Dhea Sulfate)
CD4 - CD8 = 100mg Clomid
CD13 = U/S + Labs
CD? = HCG Trigger Shot (day depends on what U/S shows)
CD? = IUI #1 after the trigger

Overall I am excited to be moving on  and actually starting treatment. But I am nervous about not being monitored until CD13. I have ovulated before that on my non-medicated cycles, so I am afraid this will be too late. I mentioned it to the nurse who preparing my calender and she seemed unconcerned, so I guess we'll just try this and adjust if we miss the mark this time. I may try OPKs this cycle just as a precautionary measure in case I do O early.

So....Let the OOP game begin!! I'm bringing my prescriptions to the pharmacy tomorrow, so we'll see what the meds are going to cost me. I also didn't ask how much the IUI is going to set me back, but I'll probably call tomorrow to ask. My insurance has been covering the B/W and U/S up to this point since they consider them all part of the "Diagnosis" process. The office manager said they should cover all monitoring up until the actually IUI as well. I guess I should be thankful for the little bit of insurance coverage I have, right?

Lindsay, this is going to be long so I apologize in advance:

1. if it were me and they potentially thought I had endo, and I was OOP, I would ask for the lap sooner than later. When we were advised on this we were basically told - if you have Endo we'll move you directly to IVF so you can either start at IVF and circumvent that situation or you can have a lap and then possibly move to IVF. But being OOP you need to know what you're facing. My big question to the RE's billing office would be how much is an medicated IUI cycle with monitoring and how much is laproscopy. If you are going to end up doing (potentially) 3 IUI cycles that *may* fail b/c of Endo and that would equal the cost of a Lap then I would just get the lap. Do you know if your regular health insurance would cover the lap?

2. Don't stress about not being monitored until O for your Clomid cycle. This is standard monitoring for a Clomid cycle, I promise.

3. The Clomid will throw off OPKs so don't even bother :) Just trust the process, it sucks but it's the only way. I normally O between CD11 and 15 and I never ovulated early because of my meds. Not saying it won't happen, but your Rx is pretty standard.

4. OOP IUI w/o meds at my clinic is $300 and we're in Upstate NY.

GL!!!!

p.s. feel free to email me nikinikinine@yahoo.com :)

IUI at my clinic, with monitoring, meds and IUI procedure is about $800. i want to move to upstate NY.

i did 4 medicated cycles and only once did the OPKs fail me. if you are worried about O too early i say pee on the OPK..at least you'll have piece of mind.

i hope this is it for you! good luck!

Well I am happy that you all are moving on, which I know is a relief in some ways. I am sorry, though, that there are not more conclusive answers quite yet.

My fingers are still crossed for you all.

I hope that the next cycle is it for you! So sorry that you have to go through all of this.

So sorry about the cyst, but I'm glad you are able to move on! I would definitely look into getting the lap done. The only reason I say that is because it was successful for me and mild endo. was found. Now, who knows if that was why I couldn't get pg or if it was the polyps, but either way it did help. You're in my T&P's!

I'm glad that your getting answers. To bad the cyst is still there, but great that you can start TTC this cycle. I'll be praying for you for this IUI to work for you guys. GL hun!

I'm so sorry about the possible endo news, and I know I would be feeling the same worries that you are feeling right now. I told you about my experience w/ clomid/OPKs/Oing early, so I won't go into that again ;) But I wanted to wish you luck. And you are right, lots of people get PG w/ endo.

I'm am excited for you that you have a plan and you can continue to TTC. I found that Walmart has the best price for Clomid - $9 without insurance. Good Luck this cycle!!

i'm commenting back to you here b/c I don't know if you'll look at my comment section LOL. Sorry.

If we do the shared risk program (i.e. the $16K OOP option) and we get pg on the first IVF we lose all of the money invested. So it's either $7K for 1 fresh IVF with the possibility of having to pay again if we get a BFN or $16K for 3 fresh IVFs & unlimited FETs with the possibility of getting pregnant on IVF #1 and overspending.

it's all a question of whether we think we'll be successful on the first or second try. s.u.c.k.s.
